NEIDL safety and training exercises planned for late summer/early fall

Researchers at Boston University’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) on Albany Street will participate in simulated safety and training exercises beginning in late summer/early fall and continuing for six to eight months, the Boston University Medical Center (BUMC) announced on June 24. The simulations will not use any live research agents, and research will not be conducted at any point during the training.

Rising from the depths

It was personal. It was emotional. And it was somehow distressing. But "And Still We Rise!," a gripping performance of true life stories by ex-prisoners was truly deep, tear-jerking and moving. The performance on June 27 at United South End Settlements’ Harriet Tubman House, 566 Columbus Avenue, illustrated how ex-prisoners restarted their lives in a positive, meaningful way after their incarceration lessons.

A fond farewell

This week we bid farewell to South End News and Bay Windows editor-in-chief Laura Kiritsy. Laura joined the papers nine years ago with a dab of experience in journalism and a ton of experience in human behavior and "BS" detection. Laura, after all, is one of the few members of our community who recognized the alleged cracks in Senator Dianne Wilkerson’s veneer and could honestly, objectively and clearly report on it. And when Governor Deval Patrick’s daughter, Katherine, decided to come out publicly, who did the family choose to call with the story? Laura Kiritsy.
