Submitted by Bridge Boston

Bridge Boston Charter School First Graders completed phase one of the school's Violin Project with the help of their families on "Paper Violin Night."

After spending the first few weeks of school learning about the instrument and its different parts, the young scholars were tasked with creating a violin out of cardboard, tape, and paint to be used in their coursework throughout the rest of the fall. They'll spend six weeks with the handmade violin learning different pieces of their instrument including strings and tuning pegs, among other parts.

Each week they earn a new part to learn about until the instrument is finally complete. After its completion, they will have a ceremony where the kids trade in their handmade violin, and it "magically" turns real. In reality, the students are each gifted with their own violin, which they will use throughout their time at Bridge Boston, a public charter school in Roxbury.
