Officers Arrest Two Suspects after Armed Robbery in South End

At about 2:52 AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of 17 Lattimore Court, Roxbury.

On arrival, officers were met by a male victim without any shoes on outside in the snow. The victim stated he was assaulted by four males in the area of 9 Ditmus Court. Officers observed the victim's injuries. The victim further reported he was then robbed of his belongings: a black backpack, a black leather jacket, size 10 brown Nautica snow boots, and $500.00 US currency.

Officers in the area observed a male fitting the suspect's description walking away from 9 Ditmus Court towards Lenox Street. This male was identified as one of the suspects involved in the robbery.

Officers continued their investigation in search of the other individuals involved in the armed robbery. Officers knocked and announced their presence at a residence near the above address and were allowed in by a female tenant. Once in the apartment, officers observed approximately eleven individuals inside. Officers informed the individuals they were looking for three males involved in a robbery that occurred in that apartment. As a result of the officer's inquiry, a second suspect was positively identified. The additional individuals in the apartment were identified and allowed to stay.

Forty-six-year-old Herbert Smith of Boston and 24-year-old Wellington Ruiz of Dorchester were both arrested and charged with Armed Robbery. Officers also recovered a pair of size 10 brown colored Nautica snow boots from inside of the apartment, as well as a the victim's black backpack in the area of 618 Shawmut Avenue.

The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident in attempts to find the remaining two suspects. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact District D-4 Detectives at (617) 343-5619.
