At about 11:56 PM on Friday, May 10, 2019, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for three pedestrians struck at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Clarendon Street in the South End.

While en route to the above location, officers received additional information that the suspect had failed to stop and fled the area in his motor vehicle. Officers spoke with the victims who stated they were in the crosswalk when the operator beeped at them before accelerating, striking all three of the victims.

The victims, two adult females and one adult male, were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As officers responded to the scene of the incident to tend to the victims, the suspect and his motor vehicle were located a short distance away on Tremont Street. While speaking with the operator, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the suspect's breath.
Further investigation led officers to take the suspect into custody.

Officers arrested Michael Watkins, 64-years-old, of Roxbury. Watkins is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (three counts), Leaving the Scene Personal Injury (three counts), and Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.

Michael Watkins was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court Tuesday and released on $1,500 cash bail, WBZ reported.
