Two Arrested and Firearm Recovered After Shots Fired

At about 3:59 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2019, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue in Roxbury. While enroute to the above location, officers received information that a black female suspect had fired gunshots in the direction of the highway and was walking toward the expressway behind the South Bay House of Correction.

On arrival, officers spoke to a white male operating a bright orange bicycle who stated that a female was shooting off fireworks in the area. Officers continued to search the area of Mass Ave and Melnea Cass for the female, eventually locating her within a group of individuals including the male on the bicycle. As officers approached, the female began to flee on foot, but was located and apprehended a short distance away.

The male on the bicycle fled in the opposite direction, but was also located and apprehended. Officers recovered ten small plastic bags containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine as well as a Smith & Wesson .38 SPL loaded with four rounds of live ammunition and two spent shell casings from the male suspect. The female suspect was found to have an active warrant and was also taken into custody.

Officers arrested Tiernan Walsh, 18-yearsold, of Mattapan and Lakeesha Braggs, 25-years-old, of Roxbury. Walsh is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs. Braggs is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building and Possession of Class A Substance. Braggs also has an active warrant out of Roxbury District Court for charges of Fugitive from Justice, Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Members of BPD's Drug Control Unit Arrest Suspect Caught Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl in the South End

At about 2:25pm, on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, officers assigned to the District D-4 Neighborhood Drug Control Unit were on patrol when they observed the operator of a green-colored motor vehicle, which was parked in the area of Wellington Street and Columbus Avenue, engaged in what appeared to be suspicious drug-related activity.

Upon closer inspection, officers recognized the operator of the vehicle from previous interactions. While surveilling the car, officers observed an individual, described as a white male, approach the car and engage in what appeared to be a drug-related transaction. During the transaction, officers observed the white male hurriedly approach the suspect's vehicle before depositing a package in the trunk of the vehicle. When the transaction ended, officers observed the individual hurriedly walk away while the suspect drove off towards Columbus Avenue. Interested in better understanding the nature of the transaction, officers activated their lights and sirens and stopped the vehicle.

When asked where he was coming from, the operator stated that he was coming from the dry cleaners where he had just dropped off hisclothes.Whenofficersaskedtheoperator if he'd been anywhere else or interacted with anyone in the last few minutes, the suspect stated, "No." When asked pointedly about the earlier transaction, the suspect appeared to be startled, flustered and surprised by the question.

When further queried about the package in the trunk, the suspect had no explanation and refused to answer any questions. At this time, the suspect was asked to exit the motor vehicle while a BPD K-9 responded to the scene. Once on scene, the BPD K-9 began examining the car for the presence of illegal narcotics. In short time, the BPD K-9 alerted his handler to the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle.

A search warrant, which was executed on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, enabled officers to locate and seize significant amounts of two Class A Drugs. Specifically, officers seized one kilogram of Fentanyl and one kilogram of Heroin. Consequently, the suspect, Steven Gonzalez, 29, of Boston, was charged with Trafficking Class A Drugs (Heroin and Fentanyl).

17-year-old Male Arrested and Firearm Recovered After Shots Fired in the South End

At about 12:38 AM on Sunday, June 2, 2019, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) made an onsite arrest and recovered a loadedfirearmintheareaof111WestConcord Street in the South End.

While on a directed patrol in the area of the aforementioned location, officers observed two males running on Al Street away from West Newton Street. Simultaneously, officers were notified by BPD Operations of shots fired in the area of 100 West Newton Street.?Due to the shots fired call and the proximity of the two

males running away from the area, officers attempted to speak with the males. At this time, the males began to run away from officers, who immediately pursued them on foot.

During the foot pursuit, officers lost sight of one of the males but observed the second male suspect crouch down between two vehicles in the area of 111 West Concord Street. Officers caught up to the suspect and subsequently recovered a Custom Trace firearm loaded with two rounds of live ammunition, from inside of the suspect's sweatshirt pocket. Additionally, detectives on scene located ballistic evidence in the area of 100 West Newton Street as well as a motor vehicle with ballistic damage as well.

Officers arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male of Boston. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm, within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Removal of a Firearm Serial Number, and Malicious Destruction of Property.
