On Thanksgiving Day, Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Senator Edward Markey, Representative Aaron Michlewitz, and other officials visited the Pine Street Inn at 444 Harrison Avenue, Boston.
Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara to delivered pies and over 200 volunteers prepared and served nearly 2,000 meals.
In addition to those having dinner at Pine Street's headquarters in the South End and other shelter locations, the nearly 850 tenants of Pine Street's permanent housing locations will celebrate the holiday in 35 residences throughout Boston and Brookline. For some, this is the first Thanksgiving in many years that they have spent in a home. Pine Street's Outreach teams will also deliver holiday meals to men and women on the streets.
Supporting close to 2,000 men and women daily, Pine Street, now in its 50th year, provides permanent housing, job training, emergency shelter and street outreach, with a goal of moving individuals off the street, out of shelter and back to a home and community.
