South End resident Lizzi Cronin is a recipient of a Scholastic Award: Gold Key, Art Portfolio, Nixie's Cave
The Cambridge School of Weston (CSW), a progressive, coeducational, day and boarding school for grades 9—12, recently announced that 29 students have been honored with 66 art and writing awards out of 8,600 submissions from across the country. According to Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, judges "look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision."
Art and writing are an integral part of the CSW academic curriculum. With a strong focus on the process of creating artwork, CSW students who express themselves through various media work just as hard on their art as they do on their academics. We are so proud of this year's recipients, who have worked incredibly hard on their chosen pieces.
For nearly 100 years, the Scholastic Awards, which are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, "have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation's youth, and provided opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. Each year, increasing numbers of teens participate in the program, and become a part of our community—young artists and writers, filmmakers and photographers, poets and sculptors, video game artists and science fiction writers—along with countless educators who support and encourage the creative process," according to the organization's website.
