Student accused of assaulting employee at Mel King school
A student is accused of assaulting an employee at the Melvin H. King South End Academy, according to police..
The assault happened May 26 at the Boston Public Schools therapeutic day school, which serves students with emotional impairments who require a high level of academic or therapeutic support.
The employee was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The student was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police said no arrests had been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
17-year-old arrested with ghost gun, drugs near Cathedral Housing
Boston police arrested a 17-year-old from Roxbury Friday, June 5, after officers said they recovered a loaded ghost gun, fentanyl pills and crack cocaine near the Cathedral Housing Developments.
Police said Youth Violence Strike Force officers were patrolling near Monsignor Reynolds Way when they saw a group of males walk away from officers. Police said the 17-year-old ran toward East Brookline and Washington streets and that officers saw a hooded sweatshirt and firearm fall from him during the pursuit.
Police said the firearm was a loaded 9 mm ghost gun with one round in the chamber and 15 rounds in a large-capacity magazine. Officers also reported finding 199 fentanyl pills, crack cocaine, ammunition, drug paraphernalia and a knife with white powdery residue.
The teen was expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on firearm, ammunition, fentanyl trafficking and drug distribution charges.
Child death investigation on Shawmut Avenue
A child died Monday, June 8, after suffering what police described as a cardiac event at a South End apartment building.
Police and firefighters responded to 180 Shawmut Ave. at 5:53 p.m. The child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
The address is Waterford Place apartments in the South End.
Boston police said the homicide unit had assumed the case and was treating it as a death investigation. It is common practice in Massachusetts for unattended deaths to be investigated.
