The Official Kick-Off to Boston Pride Week
We'll open up Pride with our traditional Flag Raising at City Hall. We'll be able to watch our mayor, Kim Janey, and Attorney General Maura Healey speak about what Pride means to the City of Boston, and why we're #wickedproud. The national anthem will be sung by the talented Aaron Patterson, which will be followed by the raising of the Progress Flag.
We are so lucky to have Aaron Patterson join us to sing the National Anthem at the Flag Raising. Aaron is a recent graduate of Boston Conservatory's class of 2021, where he obtained his Bachelor's in Fine Arts for Musical Theatre with an Emphasis in Dance. Aaron's time in Boston has been filled with many gratifying theatrical experiences; including the New England Premier of Choir Boy (SpeakEasy Stage), Hair (New Rep Theatre), and Parade (MoonBox) where his portrayal of Jim Conley won him the Elliot Norton Award for Best Musical Performance by an Actor in 2020. Aaron gives all the glory to God, and thanks his family and boyfriend for all of their constant love and support. You can follow Aaron's Instagram page at @aaron_patterson11.

Boston Pride announces that it is hosting a virtual forum for the six major candidates in the Boston Mayoral race on June 7th, 2021 at 7pm. The candidate forum will be moderated by Sue O'Connell, political commentator and analyst for Boston Pride's media partner, NBC10 Boston/necn, and a longtime journalist in the LGBTQIA+ community.

The candidates will each be given 15 minutes during a specific time slot to address the audience via this live webinar. The speaking order will be determined at the beginning of the program through a random selection process. Audience members are invited to submit questions during the event. The forum is an opportunity to learn about mayoral candidates' positions on policies and issues facing the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community.

The forum is part of the virtual programming presented by Boston Pride during this Pride season. Due to the pandemic, Boston Pride unfortunately had to cancel the in-person Pride Parade and Festival in June.

Honoring Those Living with, and Those We Lost to, the HIV/AIDS Epidemic.
The HIV/AIDS Crisis of the 1980s and the early 90s is a defining event in the history of the LGBTQIA+ community. In the face of wide-spread devastation, confusion, and fear, queer people banded together in solidarity to care for the sick and to demand the attention and action of the Government.
The virtual park lighting ceremony is meant to commemorate departed friends, family and coworkers and to increase awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which is still affecting the community today.
A signature event of Boston Pride Week, Pride Lights will feature remarks from Mayor Kim Janey, Chief of Health & Human Services Marty Martinez, and a poem reading from Philip Robinson. Virtual performances provided by the Boston Gay Men's Chorus, with others to be announced.
Pride Lights is a collaboration of the City of Boston, Boston Pride and the Blackstone / Franklin Square Neighborhood Association.
